There are those who think that, if we only use scripture in our ministry, we are somehow limiting the Holy Spirit? This thinking arises from the misunderstanding of the connection between the Holy Spirit and the Word.

The word of God is the instrument that the Holy Spirit uses in all His workings in our lives! You may rest assured that if something can’t be found in scripture, then that activity or work is not the Holy Spirit, no matter how strongly may advocate it to be so.

This is where our feelings and strong sentiments can get in the way of Gods truth. When you feel passionate about something, even when someone can show you that certain practices are not found in scripture, you might still find yourself resisting the truth.

In wrapping up this discussion here, I would like to point out a few places in scripture that show us the Spirit works through the word.

The word of God is called the sword of the Spirit in Eph 6:17.

It is through the word that we are born again. James 1:18, 1 Pet 1:23.

it is through hearing Gods word that the Spirit works faith in our hearts, Rom 10:17.

It is through the word of God that the Lord is cleansing and sanctifying the church, in order to eventually present it to Himself without spot or wrinkle. Eph 5: 25-27.

It is this word that the Lord confirmed with sign following. Mark 16: 20.

We exhorted in Gods word, that if we speak we are to speak as the oracles of God. 1 Pet: 4:11.

I believe that if we are going to see an increase in Holy Spirit activity, we must first see an increase in preaching Gods word. The two go hand in hand.
