True Christianity is really about the claims of one person, Jesus Christ. It concerns me when we make Christianity about other things. The need for the church to present Jesus Christ to the world has never been more needed at this hour. However I think there’s an even deeper problem. There is a need to present Jesus Christ to the church.
I believe we have forgotten Christ, and our souls are left bereft as a consequence. What is really sad is, we are often not even aware of Jesus Christ’s absence. We listen to sermon after sermon void of Jesus Christ and think nothing of it. It is possible for us to be educated in all the fields of theology. To know the difference between Calvinism and Arminianism, and yet still not know Jesus Christ.
We must remember that the highest goal of biblical knowledge is to know Jesus Christ more, and more clearly. If we forget about the divine person Jesus Christ, what do we have left, but a bunch of beliefs and doctrines.
I love doctrine and I love knowledge, it is a pleasure to read and study Gods word, and all the theology books I have. But let’s not lose sight of the forest for the trees. Which I think can often happen to those of us who love to study and take pleasure in knowledge. Lets not forget that the place of true knowledge and wisdom are all found in a person, Jesus Christ. Colossians 2:3 states,
“In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” The study of Christ’s person is a study which will never be exhausted.
